OCEAN Educational Programs
The Trout in the Classroom Field Experience is a hands-on watershed program that serves as the real-world extension of Trout Unlimited’s Trout in the Classroom initiative.
Hosted at the Sedona Rainbow Trout Farm and OCEAN Outdoor Classroom along Oak Creek, this program allows students to engage with trout and aquatic ecosystems before, during, and after their classroom experience. Classes may visit prior to beginning their classroom program to learn about hatchery systems and trout incubation, during the rearing process to deepen their understanding of fish biology and water systems, and after the classroom experience to simulate trout stocking and explore the habitat where trout live and thrive. Through hatchery tours, conservation discussions, and hands-on watershed learning, students connect the trout they raise in the classroom with the larger aquatic ecosystems that sustain them.

The OCEAN Watershed Field Trip Program is a hands-on environmental education experience that connects classroom science with living watershed systems. Hosted at the Sedona Rainbow Trout Farm and the OCEAN Outdoor Classroom along Oak Creek Canyon, students explore hatchery science, trout biology, and riparian ecosystems through guided instruction and field-based learning.
Participants rotate between hatchery operations and streamside environments, gaining practical understanding of fish life cycles, water systems, and the ecological relationships that support healthy watersheds.
The program serves public schools, homeschool groups, and youth organizations, with curriculum adapted for elementary through high school students.

Oak Creek Trout Camp is a two-day immersive conservation camp designed for middle school students. Hosted at the Sedona Rainbow Trout Farm and along Oak Creek Canyon, the camp provides hands-on exploration of trout biology, hatchery science, stream ecology, and watershed stewardship.
Through small-group instruction and extended field learning, participants engage in trout anatomy studies, aquatic insect identification, stream research, and fishing techniques while exploring the living ecosystems that support trout and healthy waterways.
Enrollment is limited to small cohorts to ensure individualized instruction and meaningful engagement with science in the field.
